Listen out for the harps in the performance of Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms at Cadogan Hall on 10 March. "The two harps play throughout the piece as an integral part of the orchestration but feature particularly in the middle movement accompanying the counter tenor solo in the words of the 23rd Psalm," explained Thames Philharmonic Choir director John Bate.
Bernstein apparently wrote the harp score first, before he added orchestra and choir. In performance rehearsals, he would ask the harpists to go through their parts independently, because of their key role.
