Joining the Choir

Hello and thank you for your interest in joining Thames Philharmonic Choir, an accessible and friendly amateur choir. We are focused on our music and keen to develop our individual voices but, whether you are a longstanding member or plan to join us next week, you will find us an inclusive and supportive group of singers who enjoy each other’s company and sing to a high amateur standard.

We have around 80 members from all walks of life, so why not join us for a session or two to see how you enjoy singing with us and take it from there? There are currently vacancies in all voice parts and we do encourage tenors and basses to apply!

We rehearse at St Margaret’s Church in Putney on Tuesday evenings 7.30-9.45pm and on occasional Wednesdays at Granard School Putney when approaching a performance.

See below for information on vocal assessments and how to contact us.

Vocal Assessment

Don't worry!

Like many professional musicians, Harry is involved with other choirs, but Thames Philharmonic Choir Is the only amateur choir that asks members to have a formal vocal assessment.

The vocal assessment lasts about 10 minutes, and involves a warm-up, exercises to explore the range and pitch of your voice to see how it fits in with the Choir, and a short prepared piece of your own choice.

Sight reading isn’t essential.

Choral Scholars

Thames Philharmonic Choir launched a new Choral Scholarship scheme for the 2021-22 season offering 4 TPC scholarships (one for each voice part) to singers aged 18-28. TPC is keen to support aspiring young singers wishing to pursue a solo career in music or those who wish to continue singing to a high technical standard while working in other fields. The scheme is open to anyone who enjoys singing, whether studying music, starting music careers or simply wanting to expand their singing and performance opportunities. The post offers a stipend of £1,000 a year, together with some paid solo performing and recital opportunities.

If this sounds interesting, please complete the application form and prepare two pieces of repertoire for audition in front of Harry Bradford and James Orford. You are welcome to apply at any time during the year and the annual deadline is usually mid June. The audition date for the 22/23 choral year will be Saturday 25th June at St Margaret’s Church, Putney.
